PT-141 (Bremelanotide)
Born as a breakdown product of Melanotan 2, and grown into a registered medicine.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Peptide, 7 amino acids |
| Receptors | Melanocortin receptors |
| Research field | Libido and arousal |
| Research status | Approved in the US for a specific indication |
| Form | Freeze dried powder |
What it is
When researchers studied Melanotan 2, they noticed its breakdown product had an action of its own, unrelated to pigment. That fragment became PT-141.
How it works
Unlike the familiar erection pills, which widen blood vessels, PT-141 acts in the brain, on melanocortin receptors involved in desire. That is a fundamentally different mechanism.
What the research shows
Large controlled studies have been run, resulting in approval in the United States for a defined indication in women. That puts it in the small group of substances in this field with real clinical evidence.
Research status
An approved medicine in the US. The product sold as a research compound is not that.
Practical
Dissolves well in bacteriostatic water. Keep the powder cool and dark.
